There are many ways in which you can contribute to our vision. Below are the different roles we have to offer.
If you would like to find out more about any of the roles, we invite you to call or drop by our office to discuss your interest further with us. Alternatively, email us at neca@citizenadvocacy.com.au
Program Participant
Once you become a part of the Citizen Advocacy Program, we encourage you to contribute your ideas, feedback and thoughts on how the program works and we offer a range of ways in which you can do this. You can call our office and speak with our Program Manager or Program Officer and discuss changes you might like to the program. You can call or email the President of the Committee to have your say and your input can be discussed at the monthly NECA Committee meeting, which we welcome you to attend to see what happens and to have further input if you would like to.
Here at NECA we really do value your thoughts and ideas. We will listen to what you have to say and continuously improve our program through your feedback and input. Click here to go to our Contact page for our contact information.
Volunteer Advocate
To become an advocate, you do not need any special qualifications, experience or prior involvement, just the willingness to contribute your time and self to the life of a community member with an intellectual disability. You will need to be prepared to take action and speak up on behalf of your participant. If you believe that we are all worthwhile human beings that have the right to be included and treated with respect, then you have the potential to be a much needed and valuable citizen advocate and friend. Our advocates are never alone, NECA's Program Manager - Frank Damiano, Program Officer - Carol Herman are always on hand to offer advice and support and just touch base with you from time to time.
Associate Advocate
Associate Advocates are a resource for our advocates. You may have a skill, expertise or knowledge in a particular area such as legal, housing, health issues, or be an artist or tradesperson and would like to donate your skills and/or services. It all assists our advocates to better deal with a multitude of rising issues which come up from time to time in the life of their protégé. Associate Advocates provide their time and services free of charge.
Crisis Advocate
This role is similar to that of an Advocate, however your role is more task orientated and short term to assist the advocate in resolving a particular issue in the life of their participant. If you are a resourceful, persistent and flexible member of our community, your time and energy would be greatly appreciated.
Board Member
In this role, you would be a much valued member on our volunteer board which meets monthly to discuss the operations of the program and oversee the employed staff. Board members are a vital component in making NECA succeed in being able to continue with the work that greatly impacts on the lives of our protégés.
