Disability Royal Commission – COVID-19 Update

At NECA we are continuing to support those that would like to engage with The Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse and Exploitation of People with Disability.

We understand that with the recent COVID-19 pandemic a lot of services have stopped or changed their forms of communication.

It is important to NECA that you still have the opportunity to engage with us as well as tell your story.

We want to ensure you that we are able to assist and support you during this time and that we have put some important strategies in place to ensure that those of you we are supporting are kept safe.

What this means is the following:

We can’t meet with you in person until further notice.

WE can facilitate meetings with you though through:

  • phone calls
  • video conferencing
  • phone conferencing (with 2 people or more)

You can continue to seek support from us to talk about your experiences of violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation.

We can continue to help you with your submissions.

We are still able to answer any questions you might have in relation to the Disability Royal Commission.

We are still able to link you in with services such as legal and counselling supports.

In regards to the Disability Royal Commission directly below is some information that is important to know.

All Public Hearings are suspended.

This includes:

  • the education Hearing in Brisbane, Queensland
  • justice scheduled for April in Brisbane, Queensland
  • First Nations people with disability scheduled for May in Alice Springs, Northern Territory.

The Royal Commission will continue to work despite the postponed of some the Royal Commission’s activities.
